Team Orange County, comprised of 100 students from four schools, is Southern California’s only team and the most diverse in the Solar Decathlon. We encompass a public research institution (UC Irvine), a private university (Chapman), and two community colleges (Irvine Valley College and Saddleback). Inspired by California state flower the golden poppy, our home – Casa del Sol – embraces four design principles: it draws inspiration from the diurnal golden poppy; it uses innovative technology to maximize energy efficiency; it is targeted to a Southern California market; and it is built on a drought-resistant infrastructure.
